Google Chrome for iOS is starting to test a new feature integrated with Gemini AI that will allow users to get explanations of selected text.

Here's What We Know

Gemini is currently available via a web app and a separate iOS app, but its direct integration with Chrome for iOS has not yet been realised. However, there are plans to add an "Explain Gemini" button to the browser's edit menu soon.

Long-pressing on highlighted text in Chrome for iOS will bring up an edit menu that includes options such as "Copy" or "Paste." The new "Explain Gemini" button is expected to open the Gemini web interface in a new tab, automatically filling a prompt to explain the selected text. This feature will be similar to the implementation of Gemini in Chrome for desktop, where you can refer to the language model via the address bar.

Chrome for iOS is also testing other new features like notification management, tab background customisation and automatic download deletion. Specific timelines for the introduction of new features are still unknown.
