Nightdive Studios, which revives old games, is ready to create remasters of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 projects

Nightdive Studios, a company known for reviving classic games, has expressed its readiness to remaster projects from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era. Stephen Kick, head of the studio, and Larry Kuperman, director of business development, noted that despite the difficulties with the PlayStation 3 architecture, they are confident in their abilities.
Here's What We Know
Nightdive specialises in restoring retro games that are difficult to run on modern hardware, releasing HD remasters for PC and consoles. Their latest projects include The Thing, Turok trilogy, System Shock, Forsaken, Doom 64, Quake, Quake 2, Shadow Man, Blade Runner, PO'ed, Rise of the Triad, and Star Wars: Dark Forces.
Cooperman emphasised that several factors should be taken into account before starting work on such projects:
- Platform exclusivity: Whether the game was exclusive to Xbox 360 or PS3, or had a PC version.
- Availability of the source code: Its quality and availability.
- Availability of assets: How many graphic and sound resources the game has.
Kick added that while working on remasters, they collaborate with the developers of the originals to take into account their wishes and fix the shortcomings that were discovered after the initial release. He also noted that switching to new hardware often solves problems with frame rates, texture resolution, and load times.
However, the unique architecture of the PS3 can make remastering difficult. Kick acknowledged these difficulties, but expressed confidence that the team's experience would allow them to successfully handle such projects.
