The sixth generation of the popular crossover in the version for the home market received a number of accessories that are not yet available for other countries.

Here's What We Know

Subaru introduced the Japanese version of the sixth generation Forester. One of the features of the "home" model is extended possibilities of customisation of the appearance, including off-road and sporty dodger kits.

The Japanese line-up of the sixth-generation Forester includes three versions: X-Break, Premium and Sport. Combining X-Break with the Adventure Style kit significantly changes the appearance of the crossover. The original grille, headlight décor and high-mounted door covers create the look of samurai armour.

For those who want to emphasise the off-road look, Subaru offers optional black stickers with mountain motifs on the bonnet, sides and tailgate. Unlike the U.S. version of the Forester Wilderness, however, the Adventure Style kit in Japan retains the standard suspension without increasing ground clearance.

On the other hand, Subaru also offered STI Sport accessories. The kit is available for installation by dealers. It is intended to replace the STI Sport package that was available for the previous generation.

For the Premium trim, the additions are more subdued: silver accents throughout the body and dark grey 19-inch alloy wheels.

Dealer-installable accessories are also available for the car's interior, including aluminium pedal covers, all-weather seat covers, sill guards, sunshades and various practical luggage compartment enhancements, such as a gear rack for the occasional road trip.

In Japan, the Forester will be available with two types of powertrain: a 1.8-litre turbo petrol engine and a self-charging hybrid. The hybrid technology is borrowed from Toyota, but the opposition engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive system are Subaru's own.

Subaru will release more details on the Japanese-spec Forester, including pricing, on 17 April.
