Nintendo fans shouldn't throw away their old Joy-Cons. The new Switch 2 console will retain compatibility with the previous generation. This means that you can use your old Joy-Cons to play new games.

Here's What We Know

Nintendo has confirmed that players will be able to run Switch 2 games with the Joy-Con controllers from Switch 1. Of course, you won't be able to take advantage of the new features that are only available on the Joy-Con 2. This also means that games that take advantage of Switch 2 exclusive features, such as Drag x Drive with mouse functionality, will only be available with the Joy-Con 2.

Some other Switch 2 features will also not be available with Switch 1 controllers. Nintendo explains: "You will not be able to wake up from sleep mode on Nintendo Switch 2 using the HOME button on Nintendo Switch controllers such as the Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller." And on controllers without the C button, you can launch GameChat.

But in all other situations, the old Joy-Con will work just fine and is best suited for multiplatform use.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on 5 June with Mario Kart World. The price of the console will be $450. And you will have to pay $500 for a set with the game.
