Shenmue, Doom (1993) and Super Mario Bros have become the most influential games in industry history as voted by BAFTAs
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts BAFTA conducted a user vote to find out which games gamers consider the most influential in the history of the industry.
The list of 21 titles turned out to be diverse, but it was almost impossible to predict the leader.
Here's What We Know
The voting showed that gamers consider the most influential game to be the famous action-adventure Shenmue (1999). This project of Sega and game director Yu Suzuki was filled with a huge number of secondary activities, took into account the life schedule of each character, was characterised by a complex plot and actually created the basis for open-world games with a third-person view.
Second place was given by users to the original shooter DOOM (1993). The game by John Carmack and John Romero needs no introduction, it changed and popularised the gaming industry, created the concept of modern shooters and became a cultural phenomenon almost all over the world.
