At the beginning of 2024 it became known that Embracer Group holding and Eidos Montréal cancelled the development of a new part of the Deus Ex franchise, which the Canadian studio had been working on for two years.

Fans were truly upset by this news, because when Eidos Montréal was owned by Square Enix there was no talk about the possibility of Deus Ex continuation, but with Embracer such hope appeared.

It turned out that the developers didn't give up trying to continue Deus Ex, but unfortunately the bleak news appeared again.

Here's What We Know

Insider Gaming portal shared exclusive information, according to which Eidos Montréal repeatedly offered various publishers the concept of a new part of Deus Ex and was ready to implement it. Moreover, the representatives of the companies noted that the idea of the game looks stylish and fresh, but because of the niche franchise, none of them were ready to take on the financing of the ambitious project.

As a result, Eidos Montréal is still working on other games, and recently the studio announced the dismissal of 75 employees for whom there was no work.

Recall, the last full-fledged instalment of Deus Ex with the subtitle Mankind Divided was released in 2016, and its compelling story was cut short halfway through, which only adds to the tragic nature of the decisions made.
