Ukrainian drones attacked the only Russian factory producing fibre optic cables

On the night of 5 April 2025, at around 2:20 a.m., Ukrainian kamikaze drones attacked the Optical Fibre Systems plant in the city of Saransk. This was reported by the local Telegram channel "Saransk. Incidents".
Here's What We Know
Witnesses recorded up to ten explosions, some of which occurred directly on the production site.
It is worth explaining that this company is the only manufacturer of fibre optic cable in Russia, in particular, the one used to control FPV drones. The plant had six production lines that produced up to 12,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable daily. The annual output reached 4 million kilometres.
The company used equipment from Austria's Nextrom and China's Vacree. The destruction or suspension of the company's operations could significantly limit the Russian army's ability to produce or use fibre-optic drones, which are actively used at the frontline.
The head of the Republic of Mordovia, Artem Zdunov, confirmed the fact of a drone attack on one of the region's enterprises, but did not specify which one it was.
