For a year now, Germany has been financing Ukraine's access to the satellite Internet through the Eutelsat network, which is gradually replacing the US analogue Starlink.

Here's What We Know

According to Eutelsat CEO Eva Berneke, high-speed satellite internet services have been provided to Ukraine through the German distributor for more than a year. Currently, there are less than a thousand terminals in Ukraine that allow connecting to the Eutelsat network.

According to Berneke, the company plans to significantly increase the number of terminals in Ukraine by delivering 5,000 to 10,000 new devices in the coming weeks. The company is also negotiating additional funding from Germany for the further supply of terminals.

Eutelsat owns geostationary satellites and operates the OneWeb group. It has more than 600 satellites in low Earth orbit. The company assures that its services provide the same high coverage and data transfer speed as Starlink.

In addition, Eutelsat is in talks with the EU to further develop satellite communications for Ukraine. In short, an alternative to Starlink is gaining relevance due to the ambiguous attitude of Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump towards Ukraine.
