Overbuyers already hitting eBay after Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders sell out: prices well above recommended
Passions have not yet cooled down after the Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling, and smart buyers are already cashing in on the hype. After the launch of pre-orders for the new console, many retailers instantly sold out of their stocks, and now ads for the sale of Switch 2 at inflated prices are flooding eBay.
Here's What We Know
Last week, Nintendo finally showed off its Switch successor in detail. In addition to showing games and features, the release date was announced - Thursday, June 5 - and the recommended retail price: $450 for the console or $500 for a bundle with Switch 2 and Mario Kart World.
However, as soon as pre-orders opened, stocks were instantly exhausted. For example, the Argos website has already posted a message: "Sorry, this item is too popular! But we may get a new shipment in, so check back later."
And, as expected, given the high demand, ads for Switch 2 for sale at prices well above the recommended price have started to appear on eBay. At the time of writing, there are already numerous Switch 2 offers for over $600.
While retailers such as Argos and Smyths have opened up pre-orders, Nintendo itself has introduced strict criteria for pre-orders in its own store, trying to reduce speculation by using an invitation system based on how much you have played on the Switch before.

It's also worth noting that last week Nintendo announced a delay in the US pre-order launch, which was scheduled for 9 April, "to assess the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions".
