Nintendo spoils the appetite again: Switch 2 cartridges still leave a bitter taste
Nintendo continues its tradition of protecting users from unintentional swallowing of cartridges. As with the previous model, Switch 2 cartridges are coated with a highly unpleasant taste that makes you spit them out immediately.
Here's What We Know
This measure is aimed at preventing accidental swallowing, especially among children. Nintendo's CTO, Takuhiro Dohta, confirmed that the new cartridges will retain this feature, although he does not recommend testing it on his own experience. He admitted that he once licked a cartridge during the development of the original Switch, but hasn't done it again.
Although not officially confirmed, it is likely that denatonium benzoate is used, a non-toxic compound often used to deter the use of dangerous substances.
Nintendo has not offered cartridge tastings during previous events, so those interested will be able to see for themselves how they taste after the console's official release on 5 June 2025.
