Players are eagerly awaiting the long-awaited gameplay demonstration of Bungie's new sci-fi shooter Marathon, which will take place at the end of this week, namely on 12 April. And although many people believed in the possibility of a "shadow" release (an unexpected release of the game immediately after the show), these hopes were not to be.

Here's What We Know

The reason for the false rumours was a well-known insider Tom Henderson. In response to a question from a Twitter user about the possible availability of Marathon after the presentation, he posted a popular GIF with Shrek. Regular players instantly interpreted this as a hint of a "shadowdrop", and the rumour spread quickly.

Unfortunately, there will be no "instant" release of Marathon. Henderson admitted his mistake, noting that he should be more responsible in choosing humorous images before going to bed, and clarified that Bungie is preparing a closed alpha version of the shooter for testing.

It is not yet known when it will become available. Henderson's initial comment hinted that it could happen on the same day as the gameplay presentation. However, Forbes journalist Paul Tassi thinks otherwise. According to him, the alpha version of Marathon will be released later, and its scale will be "relatively large".

It is worth reminding that Marathon will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
