Tesla quietly removed the Cybertruck's range extender battery option
Tesla has removed the optional extra battery option for the Cybertruck pickup truck from its online configurator without any comment or statement.
Here's What We Know
When Tesla unveiled the production version of the Cybertruck in late 2023, an additional option was promised for the pickup truck - a separate battery pack that is mounted on the cargo platform. The US company called it a "range extender", although the term usually refers to an internal combustion engine acting as a generator for an electric vehicle with a small battery pack. Tesla's extra battery cost $16,000 and took up a third of the Cybertruck's bed.
Although the Cybertruck has been in production for a year and a half, the range extender has yet to be released. Tesla originally said the extra battery would arrive in "early 2025," but late last year clarified that the launch date had been pushed back to "mid-2025." Now it's not at all clear whether Tesla has refused to release the product at all or is simply suspending order intake.

On the specifications page, Tesla still lists the range of the Cybertruck with and without the battery-extender. For example, for the Cyberbeast version, the standard range is claimed to be 320 miles (515 kilometres), while with the "Range Extender" it is 440 miles (708 kilometres).
