WhatsApp is working on a new option that will allow users to control who can export their chats and automatically save the sent media.

Here's What We Know

The feature is called "advanced chat privacy protection", as reported by WaBetaInfo.

The beta version of WhatsApp for iOS now has a switch that allows you to block the export of chat history for individual contacts or groups. If you activate the feature in a group chat, all participants receive a notification.

Interestingly, enabling enhanced privacy also automatically deactivates Meta AI, a chatbot that can join the conversation. In addition, the new feature blocks the automatic saving of media to the device, even if the "save all media" option is enabled in the settings. However, it is not known whether other participants will be able to save files manually.

Despite the restrictions, users can still send individual messages or take screenshots, so the feature does not guarantee complete privacy. However, it can be combined with message self-destruction to further increase the level of protection.

It is not yet known whether this option will appear in the public version of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp also recently launched the ability to add music to statuses - up to 15 seconds for photos and up to 60 seconds for videos. All such updates are protected by end-to-end encryption.

Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp can now be selected as the default calling and messaging app on the iPhone.
