The Last of Us showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have categorically rejected the possibility of replacing Bella Ramsey as Ellie, despite the five-year time jump between the first and second seasons.

Here's What We Know

The second season of the series begins five years after the events of the first, which caused speculation about the possible replacement of the actress to match the age of the character. However, according to Druckmann, they "have never considered replacing Bella".

Maisin added that he has watched Ramsay develop from the age of 17 to 21, emphasising that these years have brought significant changes that are reflected in her performance. He noted that "Bella has changed and developed quite a bit in herself."

The showrunners emphasised that the "heart and soul" of the character is more important to them than just physical characteristics. They are confident that Ramsay perfectly conveys Ellie's maturity in the second season.

The second season of The Last of Us starts on 13 April 2025. According to critics, the series continues to deeply explore moral dilemmas and the complexity of human relationships in a post-apocalyptic world.
