PlayStation Portal gets a major update: gameplay recording, game sorting, and feedback tools
Sony has released an update to the PlayStation Portal that improves cloud streaming support and the ability to record gameplay.
Here's What We Know
The update allows players to sort games in the cloud streaming catalogue by title, release date, and newly added to PlayStation Plus. In addition, it is now possible to take screenshots and record video clips during cloud streaming. Sony notes that video recording with a resolution of up to 1920x1080 pixels and a duration of up to three minutes is supported.
Additionally, gameplay is automatically paused when you open the PS Portal quick menu, enter standby mode, or receive system error messages. However, if the device is idle for more than 15 seconds, the cloud streaming session will be disconnected. The pause function is not supported in multiplayer.
The update also includes a queue for when streaming servers are overloaded, inactivity notifications, and user feedback tools. Sony plans to continue adding new features based on user feedback.
The cloud streaming beta is currently available to PlayStation Plus Deluxe subscribers, allowing them to play select PS5 games from the PS Plus catalogue via cloud streaming on PS Portal. Previously, the device was used to play PlayStation 5 games remotely, but the update makes it more self-contained with cloud streaming.
