According to the latest report by NewZoo, 45% of players who stopped playing Overwatch 2 have moved on to Marvel Rivals.

Here's What We Know

After its launch in October 2022, Overwatch 2 showed high activity rates, but over the next year and a half, the number of players declined.

The situation worsened in December 2024 with the release of Marvel Rivals, which led to a significant outflow of people. Although the Overwatch: Classic event temporarily boosted player engagement by 12%, it was followed by a 26% drop, coinciding with the release of Marvel Rivals.

Despite the fact that Marvel Rivals was released only in December 2024, it became one of the most popular games of the year, ranking eighth in terms of total playtime share on Steam.

Among the releases of 2024, it was second only to Helldivers 2 and Palworld. Among all the free-to-play games released on Steam, PS5, and Xbox in 2024, Marvel Rivals remains one of the few that hasn't closed or lost more than 90% of its peak monthly active users.
