Former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Shawn Layden expressed the opinion that Nintendo can afford to raise the price of Switch 2 games to $80 due to exclusivity, because Mario, Donkey Kong, and Zelda are not available anywhere else.

Here's What We Know

Leyden noted that exclusive projects are key to console sales, especially for Nintendo, which has iconic franchises. He emphasised that if the only place to play new Mario or Zelda titles is Switch 2, players will be willing to spend more.

It is worth noting that the increase in game prices is becoming a trend in the industry. Previously, the standard price for new releases was $60, but recently it has risen to $70, and now to $80 for some projects. This causes discussions among gamers about the validity of such changes, and few people like it.

As a reminder, Nintendo's former PR specialists explained the high prices for the company's games: the reason is related to respect for the "value" of its products.
