The new Volvo PU500 BESS energy storage system can be operated in grid-connected mode as well as in islanded power supply mode.

Here's What We Know

The PU500 is equipped with batteries with a capacity of 450-540 kWh. And the unit can be customised to meet the specific needs of each customer: to power a remote construction site, a temporary event or any other location where stable power supply is required.

The highlight of this model is the built-in 240 kW DC fast charger. This unique feature allows it to charge heavy electric trucks, electric passenger cars and tools.

Volvo Energy estimates that one heavy electric truck can be charged in about 1.5 hours. At the same time, a full charge will be enough for about 3 trucks or 20 passenger cars per day.

Volvo PU500 characteristics:

  • Weight: 7500kg.
  • Battery capacity: up to 540 kWh
  • Power consumption: up to 86 kW (AC)
  • Power output: up to 240 kW (DC/CCS2)

For locations where weak or no mains connection is particularly problematic, the PU500 offers a power boost function. This feature allows the unit to continue charging even when mains power is low, while still allowing vehicles or equipment to be charged quickly.

Volvo Energy is also preparing to further enhance the PU500's capabilities with digital services that will allow users to monitor and schedule the device.

The PU500 is already available in the Nordic markets. Prices are calculated on a case-by-case basis.
