In early March, Apple said that the launch of a more personalised Siri experience was delayed and that these features would be available "next year". Reuters then reported that the new Siri features could be delayed until 2026. Today, however, the NYT claims that Apple sources are confident of an autumn release.

Here's What We Know

According to the report, the company has not cancelled its updated Siri, and plans to release a virtual assistant that will be able to perform tasks such as editing and sending a photo to a friend on request.

These features were demonstrated at WWDC during the presentation of iOS 18 and were expected to appear in an update to this version. The main features include Personal Context, on-screen content understanding, and improved app integration.

Personal Context allows Siri to keep track of emails, messages, files, and photos, helping you stay organised and complete tasks, for example:

  • Show me the files Sam sent me last week.
  • Find the email where Sam mentioned hockey.
  • Where's the recipe Sam sent me?

Understanding the content on your screen allows Siri to perform more complex tasks.

App integration lets Siri perform actions between different apps, such as:

  • Move files between apps.
  • Edit a photo and send it.
  • Getting directions home and sharing ETAs.

Apple also integrated Type to Siri, an updated interface, ChatGPT, and improved natural language recognition.
