Days after announcing an increase in tariffs on imported goods, the Trump administration has realised that something has gone wrong and is gradually looking for ways out of a situation that could hurt the US more than other countries. This week, Trump announced a "90-day tariff pause" for all countries except China, and today an even bigger move was revealed.

Here's What We Know

The US Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) has published a list of goods that will not be subject to import duties.

All of them cannot be sufficiently produced in the U.S., are critical to industry, the economy and the public, and ... are mostly sourced from China and Southeast Asian countries.

List of product categories not subject to the new tariffs:

  • smartphones
  • computers
  • chips
  • semiconductors
  • solar cells
  • flat-screen TVs
  • flash drives
  • memory cards

Bloomberg emphasises that all the goods mentioned are on the exemption list, so import duties may be refunded in some amount in the future.
