From the impound lot to the front line: Prague will transfer abandoned cars to Ukraine
The Czech Republic has joined the practice of donating abandoned vehicles to the needs of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The Prague City Hall decided to transfer vehicles that were not taken from impound lots to be converted into military and ambulances.
Here's What We Know
"Czech Radio reported that cars that have been parked at the central impound lot in the Dubec district for three years and no one has come to pick them up, will no longer be sold at auctions or scrapped.
"Now they will get a second life: volunteers will repair them, draw up documents and send them back to Ukraine," the officials said. Instead, they will be donated to the Ukrainian army through the Neohnuti charity organisation.
Volunteers are repairing the vehicles, preparing documents and shipping them to Ukraine, where they will be used as ambulances or all-terrain vehicles.
Currently, six cars and two minibuses are being prepared for delivery. The Prague City Hall is already selecting the next vehicles for the volunteers. Other countries have a similar practice: Latvia donates cars confiscated from drunk drivers, and British volunteers have donated 35 pickup trucks to Ukraine as part of the Pickups for Peace initiative.
