Sony has officially announced a price increase for PlayStation 5 consoles. The new prices have already come into effect in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The changes affect both the digital version of the PS5 and the standard model with a disc drive, and economic challenges remain the main reason for such decisions.

Here's What We Know

According to Sony's official statement, prices for the layStation 5 have increased as follows:

PS5 Digital Edition:

  • UK: £430 (+£40)
  • Europe: €500 (+€50)
  • Australia: AUD $750
  • New Zealand: NZD $860

PS5 Standard Edition (with disc drive):

  • Australia: AUD $830
  • New Zealand: NZD $950

Prices for the PlayStation 5 Pro remained unchanged, and Sony also slightly reduced the cost of external disc drives for consoles: now they cost £70, €80, AUD $130, NZD $140.

In an official statement on the PlayStation Blog, the company explained that the decision to raise prices was dictated by the difficult economic situation: high inflation and currency fluctuations.

And just a few days before, it was announced that prices for all three levels of PS Plus in Latin America, Asia, and Australia would be increased.
