No one said it would be easy, but HBO has hit the nail on the head again. The premiere of the second season of The Last of Us attracted 5.3 million viewers on the first night alone, which is more than the opening episode of the first season. Apparently, the audience is ready to undergo another emotional test in a world where being infected is not the worst thing.

Here's What We Know

The first episode of the season titled "Future Days" returns us to post-apocalyptic America five years after the events of the first part. Ellie (Bella Ramsay) and Joel (Pedro Pascal) have settled in Jackson, Wyoming, but they are still rumbling with guilt, doubt, and fear. Ellie grows up and learns to survive, while Joel tries not to fall apart under the weight of his decisions.

The new season brings new characters and even more drama. We meet Abby (Caitlin Deaver), who appears for a reason - she has a personal reason to make Joel accountable for his actions. Dina (Isabela Merced) adds romance to Ellie's life, and Catherine O'Hara as a psychotherapist tries to understand the protagonist's mental swamp.

The premiere got off to a strong start and has every chance of repeating (or even surpassing) the success of the first season. According to Variety, the first episode showed a 13% increase in audience compared to its debut in 2023. Also, the series currently has an 8/10 rating on IMDb.
