The Subaru Solterra 2026 gets more range, updated styling and a Tesla NACS charging socket
The Solterra, Subaru's first mass-market electric car, is getting a major update for the 2026 model year. The car will go on sale later this year with a new design, larger battery and range.
Here's What We Know
Subaru of America unveiled the updated Subaru Solterra at the 2025 New York International Auto Show.
At the front, the 2026 Solterra gets an illuminated emblem, redesigned LED headlights, a new front bumper and newly designed 20- or 18-inch wheels (depending on equipment). At the rear, there is an original light signature and a revised spoiler.
The updated Solterra 2026 is equipped with a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery with an estimated range of 285 miles (459 km), an increase of more than 25 per cent compared to the previous version. Thanks to a new battery preheating system, the battery maintains an optimum temperature even in cold weather when travelling to a charging station or when activated by the driver.
The new battery charges from 10 per cent to 80 per cent faster than 35 minutes with a charging station capacity of 150 kW. Standard NACS ports will allow Subaru owners to charge at more than 15,000 Tesla Supercharger stations across North America. For home charging, support for Level 1 and Level 2 devices is available.
Subaru's standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system oversees the operation of independent front and rear electric motors. Subaru notes more flexible traction distribution and precise control on dry and wet pavement for the 2026 model.
All versions have X-MODE with two modes - Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud - as well as Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control for confident driving in low-grip or off-road conditions. The Solterra has a ground clearance of 8.3 inches (211 mm).
By the way, the power of the motors has increased by 18 hp to 233 hp (171 kW). For the first time in the range there is a Solterra XT with two more powerful engines, which together produce 338 hp (249 kW) and accelerate the car from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than 5 seconds.
The suspension and electric power steering have been upgraded for improved handling and responsiveness.
The 2026 Solterra has received a number of technology and comfort upgrades. A new 14-inch touchscreen multimedia system has been installed. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless are supported. 15W wireless chargers for driver and front passenger gadgets are standard. There are USB-C ports for the second-row passengers.
The Solterra also comes with a suite of EyeSight driver assistance systems, including automatic braking in the event of a collision, forward cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, panoramic camera, emergency stop assist, traffic jam assistant, lane change assist, adaptive cruise control, and more.
Pricing and detailed specifications of the Subaru Solterra 2026 will be announced closer to the start of sales, scheduled for later this year. The Solterra 2025 has a starting price of $39,915, including a $1420 delivery charge.
