The Witcher on pause? CD Projekt Red is in no hurry to port The Witcher 3 to Switch 2, focusing on Cyberpunk 2077
We already know that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will be released for Switch 2, but does the studio have plans to port another of its hits, The Witcher 3, to the Switch? The developers are not yet ready to answer this question.
Here's What We Know
In a conversation with Eurogamer, when Philippe Dovnar, CD Projekt Red's chief gameplay designer, was asked about the possibility of porting Witcher 3 to Switch 2, he succinctly stated that the studio is currently "fully focused on Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition" for the system.
"Our relationship with Nintendo dates back to the original Nintendo Switch, where we released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," Dovnar added. "We were pleased with the way players received the game, so when we heard about the more powerful Nintendo Switch 2, we immediately thought it would be the perfect platform for Cyberpunk 2077."
CD Projekt also admits that the first Switch version of The Witcher 3 is certainly not the ideal way to enjoy the game, but the fact that this massive open-world RPG was launched on a handheld console was a real miracle, and opened the game to a whole new audience.
So for now, we can only guess: will The Witcher 3 be updated for the new Switch or not?
