Samsung's smartphones may have another default artificial intelligence - Perplexity AI
Samsung has started talks about the possible integration of artificial intelligence assistant Perplexity into its Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
Here's What We Know
The move could be a significant addition to Google's existing Gemini assistant, which takes centre stage on Galaxy devices. Perplexity, while lesser known than Gemini or ChatGPT, is slowly gaining popularity due to its functionality.
Bloomberg reports that Perplexity's developer Perplexity had previously struck a deal with Motorola to embed its assistant in the new Razr foldable phones, which will be unveiled on 24 April. The new devices will replace Gemini with Perplexity, offering an improved interface for using the foldable form factor. In Samsung's case, it's not yet clear how the integration will be realised: Perplexity could become a pre-installed app, a default assistant or get promoted through the Galaxy Store.
However, it's unlikely that Samsung will completely replace Gemini, given its close co-operation with Google in many aspects. Nevertheless, Perplex could benefit greatly from the deal as Galaxy devices are sold in huge volumes each year, which would provide significant visibility for the service. Negotiations are at an early stage and no final decision has been made yet.
