Samsung is facing serious financial difficulties in its plans to manufacture chips in the US.

Here's What We Know

Over the past four years, its US division in Arizona has made a loss of $1.21 billion. Despite its cutting-edge technology, the company has been having difficulty securing profitable orders, which has had a negative impact on its financial performance.

Samsung has invested nearly $20 billion to build a new plant in Taylor, Texas, but the start of production has been delayed. Although construction work is complete, the company has yet to install equipment, fearing a difficult business environment and high tariffs on imported machines, which can reach 25 per cent or more.

Samsung's main competitor TSMC, which is also making significant losses in the US, is facing similar problems. Despite rumours of postponing the launch of the Texas plant to 2027, Samsung has said it plans to start production in 2026. However, market uncertainty and geopolitical factors continue to pose obstacles for the company.
