Russia plans to open a military helicopter maintenance centre in Peru

The Russian state-owned company Rosoboronexport has announced the creation of a new service centre in Peru for the maintenance and repair of Russian military helicopters, which will strengthen Russia's presence in Latin America.

"Rosoboronexport plans to open a maintenance centre in Peru for Mi series helicopters used by the Russian Armed Forces, its partners and post-Soviet countries.

According to the company's CEO, Alexander Mikheev, the facility will ensure that Russian-made helicopters in Latin America remain airworthy. The exact location and details of the centre are not disclosed.

The proposal for the structure of the service centre will be presented to the Peruvian government along with additional Russian equipment to expand the company's influence in the region. As part of these plans, Russia will showcase the Mi-17 helicopter, MiG-35 and Su-35 fighters, Il-76 transport aircraft, Orlan and Orion drones, and Kub ammunition at the SITDEF PERU 2025 defence exhibition in April.

In addition to aircraft, Rosoboronexport is presenting ground weapons, including the T-90 Proryv tank, the Floks self-propelled howitzer, the Tornado missile system, the Kornet anti-tank missile with a Bulat warhead, and small arms.

Mikheev stressed that the exhibition will discuss joint and licensed production of Russian weapons, equipment, drones and electronic warfare equipment in Latin America, as well as strengthen bilateral ties.
