OpenAI is considering buying the Chrome browser if Google has to sell it due to sanctions for violating antitrust laws. This was stated by Nick Turley, ChatGPT product manager, during a court hearing on the consequences of Google's violations.

Here's What We Know

The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) is in favour of selling Chrome after winning a lawsuit against Google last year. The court found that Google has an illegal monopoly on search engines. Now the judge hearing the case will decide what sanctions will be imposed on Google.

Turley said that OpenAI's growth is being hindered by Google's control over search, and that last year the company requested access to data for SearchGPT but was denied.

The government is also proposing that Google allow competitors to access its search data. Turley believes that access to Google's real data will significantly accelerate the development of OpenAI products. In addition, Google may be forced to terminate its agreements with Apple and other companies, where Google has long paid billions of dollars to be the default search engine in Safari.

In addition to Chrome, the US Department of Justice recommends that Google also sell Android, but only if other proposed measures do not stop its dominance in the market.

ChatGPT's product manager noted that OpenAI has offered Apple to share revenue from the integration of ChatGPT into Siri, but it is not yet clear whether Apple has agreed to this offer.
