Finland to join CV90 joint procurement with Sweden, Norway and Lithuania
Finland plans to purchase more than a hundred CV90 infantry fighting vehicles as part of a collective agreement with European partners, which should speed up deliveries and reduce costs.
Here's What We Know
Finland plans to sign an agreement on the purchase of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles in the second half of spring 2025. The procurement will take place in the format of international cooperation with Sweden, Norway and Lithuania. According to Swedish Defence Minister Ulf Christersson, this form of joint initiative will significantly speed up logistics processes, reduce the financial burden and support the defence industry of all participating countries.
Finland already operates CV9030 combat vehicles armed with 30mm Bushmaster 2 guns. At the same time, a significant part of its fleet is still based on Soviet BMP-2MDs, which are gradually reaching the end of their service life. It is expected that the upcoming order for 100-120 additional CV90s will allow the Finnish army to completely replace outdated equipment and expand its mechanised capabilities.

The deal does not yet have an exact value, but it is known that it covers the purchase of several hundred vehicles for all participating countries. Christersson acknowledged that combat vehicles are expensive, but also assured that defence budgets are growing in line with the new security realities.
The CV90, developed by Sweden's BAE Systems Hägglunds, is becoming increasingly common among European armies. By 2030, this platform is on track to become the most widely used in its class on the continent. In addition to Finland, Sweden, Lithuania and Norway, it has already been chosen by the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Ukraine, which is actively using the CV90 in combat.
