Nintendo Switch 2 exceeds 2.2 million pre-orders in Japan alone - the company will not be able to deliver so many consoles on launch day
Ahead of the release of Nintendo Switch 2, which is scheduled for 5 June, the company shared pre-order statistics on social network X. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said that about 2.2 million people have pre-ordered the console in Japan alone, which is significantly higher than the company's expectations.
Here's What We Know
Furukawa noted that due to the limited number of devices, many users who participated in the lottery on the My Nintendo Store website will not receive their console on the launch day. He expressed regret for this situation, explaining that demand far exceeded production capacity.
To simplify the process for customers, all non-winners from the first lottery will automatically be transferred to the second lottery - no re-registration is required. However, even with the additional units, Nintendo will not be able to meet all the requests.
Starting on 24 April, the company is opening pre-orders through other retailers and online stores. Some of them may also use a lottery system for fair distribution. Meanwhile, Nintendo is ramping up production to meet demand.
