Unknown Worlds, the studio that gave us the eerie underwater adventure Subnautica in 2014, has released a new developer diary detailing the progress of the long-awaited Subnautica 2.

Here's What We Know

In the video, players can get a first look at one of the most anticipated features of the game: four-player co-op mode. Now, you can explore the eerie depths of an alien planet side by side with your friends, which is a radical change from the lonely journey of the original game.

"For the first time, you'll have the opportunity to play Subnautica 2 with your friends in co-op mode," explained lead designer Anthony Gallegos, showing footage of several players exploring the underwater world.

The original Subnautica didn't have a co-op mode, but the desire for players to explore the alien ocean together was so strong that modders eventually created their own co-op mod. Obviously, Unknown Worlds listened to the wishes of the fans when developing the sequel.

Subnautica 2 differs from its predecessors in other aspects. Unlike the previous games in the series, which took place on a planet known as 4546B, Subnautica 2 will take players to another alien planet with new biomes, vehicles, and creatures (including leviathans). However, the game retains some familiar elements.

Subnautica 2 will be released in early access so that players can express their opinions on the game before its official release. The early access launch is scheduled for 2025, although the official date has not yet been announced.

Subnautica 2 is already available to add to your Steam wishlist. Get your scuba gear ready and don't forget to invite your friends - it will be much more interesting (and maybe a little less scary) to explore unknown depths together.
