Get ready for even more spectacular and destructive battles in 17th century feudal Japan! In a new interview, Sucker Punch director Nate Fox revealed an interesting detail of the upcoming Ghost of Yotei, set among the cherry blossoms: in addition to the deadly shine of the katana, familiar to us from Ghost of Tsushima, players will also have at their disposal... bombs!

Here's What We Know

According to Fox, Ghost of Yotei will have "the advantage of using gunpowder as part of the combat system".

"While the katana remains the most valuable weapon," he explains, "having more options to blow things up is never a bad thing in a video game.

Ghost of Tsushima is set during the Mongol invasions of Japan in the late 13th century. Historically, and in the game itself, gunpowder bombs were already present in that period, but Japan was not truly exposed to explosives until several centuries later.

And here comes the Ghost of Yotei, ready to set everything on fire! The new trailer, which also revealed the game's release date - October 2, is almost completely immersed in orange flames. It flickers in pits, on torches, but also swirls around tree trunks and engulfs an entire bridge as the protagonist Atsu prepares to strike.

"Weapons are of course very important," Fox continues in the interview, "because weaponry is part of the feel of samurai cinema. Becoming a master of that blade is an integral part of that. But we wanted to give players an even greater connection to the weapons."

"Being able to play with such a variety of weapons is something completely new to the feel of the game," adds co-director Jason Connell.

Thus, Ghost of Yotei will offer players not only the familiar samurai katana skills, but also new tactical possibilities through the use of explosives, which will make the battles even more dynamic and spectacular. We are waiting for October 2 to set feudal Japan on fire!
