British studio Supermassive Games is one of the most prolific developers - they are world famous for Until Dawn, The Quarry and The Dark Pictures anthology. It's not uncommon for Supermassive to release several games a year, but as Insider Gaming reporter Mike Straw has learned, one game still had to be cancelled.

Here's What We Know

According to Straw's exclusive information, Supermassive Games was developing an action-adventure game based on the Blade Runner franchise, which is based on the famous book Do Androids Dream of Electric Owls? (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) and is a classic of world cyberpunk.

The events of the unannounced but already cancelled game called Blade Runner: Time to Live unfolded in the city of New Zurich in 2065. The main character was supposed to be So-Lange - a replicant of the Nexus-6 model, whose life cycle was prolonged, which was not expected by its manufacturer. So-Lange was tasked with eliminating the leader of an underground cell of replicants, but he faced betrayal and found himself on the brink of death.

Blade Runner: Time to Live was expected to be a 10-12 hours single-player story game with combat, stealth, location exploration and detective investigations.

The team of authors of The Quarry, began preliminary development of the game on Blade Runner in September 2024, and its release was planned for September 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, as well as on next-generation consoles.

The game was planned to cost $45 million to create. It's unclear what caused the cancellation of Blade Runner: Time to Live, but Insider Gaming's source claims that Alcon Entertainment, which owns the rights to Blade Runner, is to blame.

Of course, Supermassive Games won't be out of a job, but a game like this could be an interesting evolution of the iconic franchise.
