The legendary Yoda, who met Luke Skywalker in 1980, like many other Star Wars characters, has become an icon, and one of his most striking features is undoubtedly his peculiar way of expressing himself. By mysteriously rearranging words in sentences, he made his listeners strain their attention. And now, the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas, has finally revealed a clear explanation of this linguistic feature.

Here's What We Know

Lucas told about the reasons for Yoda's unique dialogue that distinguishes him from other characters.

"If he speaks normal English, people won't listen as closely," he explained. "But if he has an accent, or is really hard to understand, they will focus on what he is saying."

He was basically the philosopher of the film. I had to come up with a way to get people to really listen - especially 12-year-olds.

The only question that remains is: will another famous character like Yoda have a similar way of speaking? Ever since his debut in The Mandalorian, fans have been wondering what Grog's first words would sound like.

Find out in The Mandalorian and Grog, which will be released on the big screen on 22 May 2026.
