While everyone's attention is focused on the unexpected release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remaster, another part of the Elder Scrolls universe is also preparing a pleasant surprise. The developers of The Elder Scrolls Online have announced that the unique Scribing system, which allows players to customise their skills, will be free for everyone.

Here's What We Know

Although you will have to wait a little longer - the update on the official Steam page indicates July - the team decided to share this good news right now. The fact is that Scribing will be available on the Crown Store on test servers starting Monday. Previously, only owners of the Gold Road premium add-on had access to this system.

Scribing will become part of the base game, available for free to all players in the Crown Store in mid-July, along with the related Golden Pursuit.

This means that ZeniMax Online Studios "will not be selling Scribing on the Crown Store". And even if you miss out on the bundled Golden Pursuit, you will still be able to get Scribing from the Crown Store as it is "an ongoing step to bring the system to the base game".

The developers have also warned of a "short window" from June to July when update 46 will be released and the Gold Road area will move to ESO Plus and the Crown Store. During this period, players who do not yet have access to Scribing will not be able to purchase or receive it.

However, not all players were enthusiastic about the news. Those who had previously paid for access to Scribing were particularly dissatisfied, as Bethesda stated that it had "no plans at this time" to compensate these users.

"What about those who paid for it in the first place?" one player asked.

"I just bought this last month, will I get a refund?" another asked.

In response, a Bethesda representative said:

"No, nothing is planned at this time. However, Scribing Golden Pursuit is a good value and is equally accessible to those who have already invested time in Scribing as it is to newcomers. In fact, those who have used Scribing in the past year may find some of the tasks faster and easier to complete."

This situation has sparked a lively discussion among players about the fairness of this policy and its impact on future purchases of game content.
