Mercedes-Benz Trucks intends to set a new record for the driving range of its electric truck eActros 600, but not quite in the usual way: the truck will have to drive in reverse for more than 100 kilometres without stopping.

Here's What We Know

Mercedes-Benz Trucks wants to bring the Guinness record in this discipline back to Germany. The current record was set in the USA - a diesel truck reversed more than 89 kilometres.

The new record attempt is scheduled for 4 June in Oschersleben (Saxony-Anhalt, Germany). For the race, the company is co-operating with the associations Blicki e.V. and PROFI - Pro Fahrer-Image e.V., which use the event as a platform to promote road safety among children as well as to raise the prestige of the driving profession.

The car will be driven by experienced driver Marco Hellgrewe. The German military officer and lorry enthusiast set his first record in 2008. Then he reversed a distance of 64 kilometres in a diesel truck. He said that travelling such a distance in reverse is a serious task, but the test runs were successful.

Recall that the Mercedes eActros 600 has three LFP battery packs with a total capacity of 621 kWh. The manufacturer's claimed range without intermediate recharging is 500 kilometres.

It is worth noting that recently electric cars are increasingly setting various records. For example, Verge Motorcycles recently set the record for the longest journey on an electric motorbike on a single charge. In 2023, Iveco eDaily set a record for towing a load weighing around 153 tonnes. In 2022, Chinese manufacturer Geely set two records at once for the Zeekr 001 model - for the fastest electric car drift and the fastest electric car slalom.
