The world of cinema continues to be conquered by pixel magic as Minecraft demonstrates incredible resilience at the global box office, crossing the amazing $800 million mark. This success makes the film adaptation of the popular video game the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year so far, and by a wide margin. The second place in this ranking is taken by Captain America: Brave New World with a result of $414.8 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo.

Here's What We Know

It is reported that over the past weekend, the Minecraft film grossed another $22.7 million at the domestic box office, taking fourth place. It is worth noting that this is the film's fourth weekend in cinemas. Interestingly, it was not the only video game adaptation at the box office: the horror Until Dawn debuted with $18 million at the global box office.

The total global gross of the Minecraft film is currently $816.5 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo, so the ambitious $1 billion goal still looks quite achievable.

Earlier this month, Minecraft became the second highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, surpassing the global gross of Sonic the Hedgehogs 3 ($462.5 million). However, it seems unlikely to surpass the phenomenal result of the Super Mario Brothers at the cinema ($1.36 billion).
