Fast charging station network operator Ionity will be the first in Europe to install the new Alpitronic HYC1000 chargers. These devices can add up to 300 kilometres of mileage in less than eight minutes, provided the vehicle is compatible.

Here's What We Know

The Alpitronic HYC1000 system comprises a central Power Cabinet that distributes power to four charging modules. Each is equipped with two connectors, allowing up to eight electric vehicles to be charged simultaneously with dynamic power distribution between the ports. In doing so, one vehicle can receive up to 600 kW of power.

Testing of the HYC1000 will begin in May at the Ionity test site near Munich. Deployment of the first charging points in the commercial network is scheduled for the second half of 2025.

Meanwhile, China's BYD has unveiled its first two "Super e-Platform" electric vehicles in China - the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV. These models are built on a 1000-volt architecture and support megawatt charging at the company's proprietary stations. The Han L charges from 10 per cent to 70 per cent in just 6 minutes, while the Tang L adds 370 km of range in 5 minutes.
