OpenAI has updated ChatGPT - now the chatbot will suggest what to buy online
OpenAI has expanded the search capabilities of ChatGPT to make online shopping easier. Thanks to the new update, ChatGPT can now offer multiple products at the user's request, show prices, customer reviews, images, and purchase links.
Here's What We Know
For example, if you search for "espresso machine under $200", ChatGPT will not only suggest several models, but also show you how much they cost, how other users rate them, and where you can buy them. This update is based on the GPT-4o model and is available to all users - both the free version and Plus and Pro subscribers. Users can use it even without logging in.
The feature is focused on popular categories such as fashion, beauty, home appliances and electronics. More categories are likely to be added in the future. The search can be performed in a regular form - just ask a question in natural language.
The company emphasises that it does not show ads, does not influence search results, and does not receive a commission from purchases. Information about products comes from open structured sources.
OpenAI also reported that ChatGPT Search was used more than a billion times in a week. In the near future, OpenAI plans to make ChatGPT responses less overly polite.
As a reminder, OpenAI is working on its own social network similar to X. OpenAI also announced the launch of three new GPT-4.1 models via the OpenAI API. The GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and GPT-4.1 nano models are not currently available for ChatGPT.
