Gearbox boss assures that Borderlands 4 release date change has nothing to do with fear of GTA VI: decision is 100% a result of confidence in game
Amid speculations about the possible impact of Grand Theft Auto VI on the release schedule of other major games, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has categorically denied the assumption that the postponement of Borderlands 4 to an earlier date is related to Rockstar's plans. As a reminder, Gearbox announced that the release of the long-awaited shooter would be postponed by several weeks, which instantly sparked rumours about a possible "escape" from the inevitable release of GTA 6, which also belongs to the publisher Take-Two.
Here's What We Know
However, Randy Pitchford has clearly stated that the decision to release Borderlands 4 early is "100% a result of confidence in the game and development trajectory, backed by actual tasks and bug detection/fixing rates". He also added that their decision is "literally 0% dependent on the actual or theoretical launch date of any other product".
It is worth noting that Take-Two representatives have repeatedly emphasised that they do not plan to release GTA and Borderlands back-to-back. Grand Theft Auto VI is officially scheduled for release this autumn, and although the exact date has not yet been announced, the parent company Take-Two recently confirmed that the game's development is going according to plan.
From now on, Borderlands 4 will be released on 12 September instead of 23 and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
