The world of gaming journalism was shaken by the news of the acquisition of Polygon, a well-known media outlet dedicated to video games and pop culture, by Valnet, which also owns The Gamer and Game Rant. Unfortunately, this change of ownership has led to sad consequences for many Polygon veterans: numerous long-time employees have announced their resignation or decision to leave the site as part of the sale.

Here's What We Know

According to Kotaku, among those who have already announced their departure from Polygon on social media are co-founder and editor-in-chief Chris Plant, senior writer Michael McWhorter, deputy editor Matthew Reynolds, gaming journalist Tyler Kolp, and senior reporter Nicole Carpenter.

According to Kotaku, deputy editor Maddie Myers and gaming editor Zoe Hanna will remain with the site after the acquisition. Polygon was previously owned by Vox Media, the owner of The Verge.

Polygon was founded in 2012 with a focus on in-depth video game coverage and, according to Comscore, had a US readership of around 6 million. After the sale, Vox Media said it would focus its resources on other areas of its business.

The fate of the site under new management and with a new team remains uncertain.
