The Kia EV9's wipers are being investigated in the US for problems with the wipers - they refuse to work even in light icy conditions
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into nearly 27,000 Kia EV9 electric crossovers from the 2024-2025 model years. The reason was owners' complaints about the windscreen wipers.
Here's What We Know
The malfunction typically occurs in poor weather conditions. According to the NHTSA, the wipers stop functioning if even a small lump of snow or ice accumulates under them, preventing the wipers from returning to their original position.
One EV9 owner's complaint noted an unusually wide gap between the bonnet and the glass where snow easily accumulates. The electric wiper motor, he said, can't handle even the small amount of effort required to overcome such an obstacle.
The NHTSA has not yet released technical details, but said it has video and photo evidence documenting the wipers' inoperability in moderate weather conditions. Windscreen wipers directly affect visibility and therefore road safety. In the near future, the agency will determine whether a recall of Kia EV9 cars is needed to fix the problem.
By the way, we recently told you how Stellantis announced five recall campaigns in one day for Jeep, Ram and Alfa Romeo brands.
