Mattel company enters the LEGO territory with a new line of constructors under the Brick Shop brand. The first sets are made in the style of the famous Hot Wheels cars, but at the same time they have an original approach to the assembly and customisation of car models.

Here's What We Know

Brick Shop sets stand out from their analogues with realistic proportions, high detailing and the presence of metal elements. Moreover, each set includes a nice bonus for collectors - a miniature model in 1:64 scale.

The sets are divided into three series:

  • Premium - includes a scale (1:12) model of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL with rising gull-wing doors and detailed interior. Priced at $119.99.
  • Elite - for $49.99 the buyer gets one of three kits (1990 Corvette Grand Sport, 1990 Acura/Honda NSX and 1962 Chevrolet Pickup) made in 1:16 scale. The cars have moving parts, branded stickers and metal hubcaps. The NSX is also highlighted by working steering and retractable headlights.
  • Speed, the most affordable series (at $19.99 per set), includes a Maserati MC20, a Cadillac Project GTP hypercar and a customised 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in 1:32 scale.

The Brick Shop collection will go on sale this summer. Some retailers are already taking pre-orders. Mattel spokesman Roberto Stanichi said the new line fulfils the demand of car fans. He said these models aren't just built from cubes - they retain an authentic automotive aesthetic, thanks to carefully recreated shapes and real metal parts.
