Xiaomi has cut the SU7 Ultra sedan's power output to 900bhp so that drivers don't get killed due to lack of experience
The new Xiaomi SU7 Ultra software version number 1.7.0 limits the maximum power output of the powertrain to 900 hp. Unlocking the full power - 1,138 kW (1,548 hp) - is possible if the driver can prove sufficient training.
Here's What We Know
To unlock full power, the driver must show the recommended lap time in qualifying mode on an official race track. This decision is aimed at improving safety. Especially for beginners who are not ready to drive an extremely powerful electric car.
Xiaomi Auto's customer service explained that limiting power reduces the risk of accidents for inexperienced drivers. Full power is only for the race track using special tyres and special accessories.

The SU7 Ultra has three engines: one at the front and two at the rear. Maximum torque reaches 1,770 Nm and top speed is 359 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 1.98 seconds. The Qilin 2.0 NMC battery pack manufactured by CATL has a capacity of 93.7 kWh. It provides a range of 620 kilometres in China's CLTC test cycle and can charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 11 minutes.
Xiaomi has met the SU7 Ultra's annual sales target of 10,000 units in the first two hours after the start of taking orders.
