Epic Games has announced a dramatic change to the Epic Games Store operating model that will take effect in June 2025. From now on, all payments processed through the store will not be subject to any commission until the first million dollars in revenue is reached. Only after this mark will the profit distribution in the ratio of 88% in favour of the developer and 12% for Epic Games come into effect.

Here's What We Know

This means that developers who place their games on the Epic Games Store will be able to receive the full amount of the first million dollars in revenue without giving Epic Games a single penny. But that's not all. In addition to the amazing news of zero commission on the first million, Epic Games also announced the launch of web shops for developers.

The official press release reads:

"In June 2025, we are launching a new feature that will allow developers to create their own web shops hosted on the Epic Games Store. These web shops will be able to offer players purchases outside of the app as a more cost-effective alternative to in-game purchases where Apple, Google and others charge exorbitant fees. Thanks to the new legal rulings, developers will be able to direct players out of games to make digital purchases in web shops on any platform that allows it, including iOS in the European Union and the United States."

What's more, all players who make purchases on Epic Websites will receive a 5% Epic Rewards bonus for every purchase. So, it's not just developers who will benefit. Epic Games has long been an advocate of rewarding both developers and players. The UEFN ecosystem in Fortnite has allowed creators to earn significant funds by entertaining players around the world, and the Epic Games Store regularly gives away high-end games for free while supporting developers.
