Tesla has released a paid upgrade for the Model Y Juniper. Owners of the electric car will be able to purchase the Acceleration Boost package for $2000, which boosts power and reduces acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) from the previous 4.6 seconds to 4.2 seconds.

Here's What We Know

This is a familiar tactic for Tesla - the company has previously offered a similar option for previous versions of the Model Y. In the case of the Model Y Juniper, such a boost to dynamics is especially relevant: right now, only the Long Range version with all-wheel drive is available in the U.S., while the more powerful Performance and the available rear-wheel drive version are not.

According to Tesla enthusiast Matthew Donegan-Ryan, the increase in power is about 100bhp, making the Model Y Juniper noticeably faster than rivals such as the Volvo EX40 and Nissan Ariya Nismo. The change will be particularly noticeable under hard acceleration, such as when overtaking or taking to the motorway.

For Tesla, updates like this are not only a way to increase interest in the model, but also a source of additional revenue. The company has long offered to unlock the hidden potential of its cars through software, whether it's increasing range, activating all-wheel drive, or improving dynamics.

But Acceleration Boost for Juniper looks more like a temporary digital bridge between the Long Range and the upcoming Performance version. It's one way to stimulate demand amid choppy sales, especially when the Model Y remains the brand's key model.
