Ubisoft has announced the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows major update 1.0.4, which will be available on 6 May on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Mac. Players will find a free story quest, new features for the Codex encyclopaedia, numerous bug fixes and gameplay improvements.

Here's What We Know

The main feature of the update is the free story "The Works of Luis Frois". Players will be able to travel to Azuki, where they will meet the Portuguese Jesuit Luis Frois. To start a new storyline, you must first complete the mission "The Path he Walks". In the quest, you will have to help Luis recover the lost records, protect Lady Satoko, and learn more about the Jesuits' activities in Japan. The mission can be completed as either Naoe or Yasuke.

Another important addition is the Codex expansion: the in-game encyclopedia now contains biographies of all key characters. This will help you better navigate the complex relationships between allies and enemies as you travel through Japan.

Update 1.0.4 also contains more than 50 fixes, including:

  • Reduced the number of deer near roads that were often hit.
  • Improved animations and visual effects.
  • Numerous changes to the photo mode, including bug fixes with poses and filters.
  • Stability issues and random game crashes have been resolved.
  • Added new performance indicators for PC (for example, displaying VRAM usage).
  • Separate fixes for different platforms: "Balanced" mode is back on Xbox, resolution settings in windowed mode are fixed on Mac, and performance in the opening splash screen is optimised for Steam Deck.

The size of the update depends on the platform: PS5 - 4.67 GB, Xbox Series X|S - 20 GB, Steam - 8.5 GB, PC (Ubisoft Connect) - 17 GB, Mac - about 9 GB.

Ubisoft is already preparing new story missions, parkour improvements, additional difficulty modes, and a large-scale Claws of Awaji expansion by the end of 2025.
