Nintendo Switch 2 has become one of the most anticipated consoles of the year, but few people know that work on it began in 2019 - just two years after the release of the original Switch. Thanks to court documents in the Nintendo v. Genki case, it became known how the company was preparing the next generation of the console step by step, which will go on sale on June 5 for $450.

Here's What We Know

The development of Switch 2 started with the idea to preserve the main feature of its predecessor - a hybrid format of a home and portable console, but to significantly enhance technical capabilities. The novelty has a larger 7.9-inch 1080p display with a frequency of 120 Hz and HDR support. Inside, there is a new NVIDIA chip, 256 GB of internal storage, and support for microSD Express cards up to 2 TB.

The updated Joy-Con 2 is now magnetically attached, has larger buttons, and for the first time has a mouse function, which opens up new opportunities for strategy and shooter genres. A new camera for video chats and social functions has also been added, and improvements have been made to the sound, microphone, and battery.

As a reminder, Nintendo has officially filed a lawsuit against the accessory manufacturer Genki, accusing the company of trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising. The reason was Genki's demonstration of Nintendo Switch 2 models and statements about the compatibility of its accessories with the new console before its official announcement.
