Microsoft is taking a historic step: the legendary Gears of War series will be expanding beyond the Xbox ecosystem for the first time and will be available to PlayStation 5 owners. Gears of War: Reloaded - a modern remaster of the classic shooter - will launch on 26 August 2025 simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for $40, opening a new era for the franchise and its fans, as we wrote on 5 May, but now there are new interesting details about this version.

Here's What We Know

Gears of War: Reloaded is not just a port, but a completely updated version of the original 2006 game created by The Coalition, Sumo Interactive, and Disbelief studios. The developers promise the most complete experience for players: it includes the entire campaign, an additional act from the Ultimate Edition, all multiplayer maps and modes, as well as unlockable classic characters and cosmetics. All the additional content is available immediately and for free, making Reloaded the most complete version of the first Gears of War.

Reloaded will also be an example of open multi-platform: for the first time in the history of the series, players will be able to play together regardless of platform thanks to full support for cross-play and cross-progression. For co-op and PvP, you don't even need to have a Microsoft account, although it will be useful for saving progress between platforms.

Gears of War: Reloaded is timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the franchise and will be not only a celebration for fans but also a great start for a new audience ahead of the release of the prequel Gears of War: E-Day.
